Drupal 8: which Drupal 7 modules went into core?

Drupal 7 modules available in Drupal 8

We started building our new company site in Drupal 8 (release alpha-7) to get a real good feel of D8. Not just by a quick install but really get our hands dirty and get a good look under the hood. We already built our first module in Drupal 8 during DrupalCon Prague so we knew a bit what to expect, but we still had some basic questions: Which Drupal 7 modules went in to Drupal 8 core? Which drupal 7 contrib modules won't be necessary anymore in Drupal 8?

How does caching work in Drupal?

Question

In my experience, there seems to be a lot of misunderstanding how Drupal caching works. I'm not talking about advanced caching mechanisms like Varnish, APC or memcache here, I'm talking about the core Drupal caching: page cache and block cache which are available in Drupal 7 core. Drupal 6 is similar but works a but differently because page caching was simplified for Drupal 7 (e.g. aggresive mode is now a available as a settings.php var) and the entire system also has become pluggable.

Migrated to Drupal 7!

Architects
Drupal 7 release client 2 came out yesterday, so we thought it might be a good time to get our hands dirty. Our old blog was still in Wordpress so it was about time we migrated it to Drupal, and along the way do a quick redesign based on the new default theme Bartik.
