Social Media & Community building resources

social=media-community-building-resourcesIn the last couple of years, I collected a considerable amount of resources (mostly links I keep on del.icio.us) about Social Media, Community Building and On-line Marketing in general. I thought it might be nice to organize them and share them.

Multiple fieldgroups with CCK

If you are using Drupal+CCK intensively you will sooner or later run into limititations. One of these is the unability to create multiple fieldset groups. This is a very common problem when you need a way for users to insert an unknown amount of items and each items uses the same combination of fields.

The Drupal 7 Media Library and Design Patterns

In their amazing effort to involve the community as much as possible, a while ago the Drupal 7 User Experience team — lead by Leisa Reichelt and Mark Boulton — introduced microprojects. These microprojects are about relatively small parts of Drupal which are in need of some user experience improvements.

Beach, Balls and Business

It will be a busy summer at Merge headquarters, but that doesn't mean there won't be time to relax. Mixing business with pleasure: the Beach, Balls and Business event in Breda.

DrupalJam Utrecht

DrupalJam - June 26 Utrecht

Tomorrow will be the fifth DrupalJam in the Netherlands. This time hosted in Utrecht and packed with sessions, presentations and workshops in three different areas (it's beginning to look like a mini-drupalcon!).

If you are interested in Drupal, drop by! It's a great way to get a feeling for the community.

Forgot your password?

So you built a super-easy-user-friendly website for community members. But despite all your efforts to make everything go as smooth as possible there is still one thing which remains a bump in the road: logging in. Of course you offer a 'remember me' checkbox and hope your users will let the browser remember the password, but there always will remain a group of users who doesn't use that option, or login on a different computer and... forget their login credentials.

A Better Backend

Big cheers to the folks at developmentseed and especially Young Hahn for creating this amazing admin module which drastically improves the usability of the Drupal backend. This is, in fact, a module and includes a admin menu, contextual administration links and an admin theme.

Email is dead, hello Wave!

I got home yesterday and noticed a lot of buzz going on about something called Google Wave. At first I thought it might be yet another Google service but 5 minutes into the video presentation I was hooked. This is  indeed how on-line communication was meant to be. But you really should watch the video yourself to get a good picture. Mashable also made a great guide.

New Drupalcon Paris website

Drupalcon Paris' website got a redesign and registrations are now open. The earlier version raised a lot of interesting discussion. According to some people the design was sexist. Frankly I hadn't even noticed, but I think everybody will be happy with the new design.

Count views results

Here's a short snippet howto create custom result counters with index for your views in Drupal 5, Drupal 6 and Drupal 7.

Drupal 7 see here.

An example of this code could result:

Showing 21 - 30 of 46 results.

A very common usage, but not available out-of-the-box in Views 1 or 2. You will need to theme a bit using some code snippets. Here's how you can do it:
